The technological evolution and the digital transformation as the foundations for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations (UN)
September 12th, de 9h às 12h30 (UTC -3)
About
The 2030 Agenda is a commitment made by all countries that took part in the United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development in 2015, which includes the 193 UN Member States, including Brazil.
There are 17 (seventeen) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that make up the 2030 Agenda, as shown in the figure:

The topic is very important for the country's development. Anatel and the Ministry of Communications hold seats at the National Commission for the SDGs (CNODS, in Portuguese), established by Decree No. 11,704, on September 14, 2023. The commission, consultive by nature and created within the structure of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic of Brazil, has the aim to contribute to the internalization of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the country, stimulating its implementation in all spheres of the government and in civil society and following, spreading and giving transparency to the actions taken to arrive at its targets and to surpass the SDGs of the UN 2030 Agenda in Brazil in due time.
In the case of Brazil, the 2030 Agenda was considered in the development of the 2024-2027 Multi-Year Plan (Plano Plurianual – PPA, in Portuguese), which is the main instrument for medium-term federal government planning. As one of the budgetary laws provided for in the Constitution, the PPA concretely guides the government's choices, which are translated into programs and the budget defined for the next four years. This demonstrates Brazil's tangible commitment to fulfilling the SDGs.
The crescent technological evolution and the digital transformation have been the fundamental basis for the global social and economic development, placing the telecommunications sector at the forefront of the global debates, impelling the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations (UN). This is because information and communication technologies (ICTs) play crucial roles in the digital age, bringing together individuals, businesses and nations.
In the context of the G20 countries, this relevance is still more evident, considering these nations are responsible for approximately 85% of the world GDP, 75% of the international trade and that they correspond to two thirds of the population of the planet, representing a significant share of the global economy and playing a crucial role in the implementation of the UN 2030. Hence, the integration of digital technologies and a holistic approach about the new digital ecosystem are essential for achieving the 17 SDGs, which comprise matters of utmost international relevance, including, for instance, poverty eradication and climate action measures.
In other words, the construction of a robust digital ecosystem is fundamental for facilitating innovation, improving efficiency in public and private services and for promoting substantive digital inclusion. In Brazil, the rapid adoption of digital technologies illustrates how connectivity can be the driver for socioeconomic transformation. However, a coordinated effort is necessary to guarantee that these technologies are used in a sustainable and equitable way, effectively contributing for the timely and successful conclusion of the SDGs.
This workshop, “The technological evolution and the digital transformation as the foundations for achieving the SDGs of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the UN”, has the objective to explore how actions and initiatives can be leveraged to promote a sustainable and inclusive future, boosting the economic and social development of the G20 countries and, consequently, of the broader international community.
The Workshop will be an opportunity for G20 DEWG delegates, knowledge partners and representatives of other invited international organizations to have an in-depth discussion on the topics of technological evolution and digital transformation as pillars for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN 2030 Agenda.
Thus, its purpose is to encourage a fruitful debate on strategies and practical solutions aimed at strengthening the digital ecosystem and driving the achievement of the UN 2030 Agenda's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
