Looking to the future, Startup20 closes second official meeting

With more than 400 accredited participants and international representation, the engagement group held its second meeting during the Web Summit Rio, one of the world's leading business and innovation events. Topics such as public policies and innovation, financial regulation and fintechs, the impact of artificial intelligence and startup financing were debated.

Startup20, after making its debut with a meeting held in Macapá, Amapá state, in the Brazilian Amazon, held its second meeting in the city of Rio de Janeiro between April 15th and 18th. The    engagement group met during Web Summit Rio, one of the world's leading business and innovation events. The aim of Startup20 is to act as a forum for a global dialog with stakeholders in the startup and technology ecosystem, under the coordination of the Brazilian Startup Association (Abstartups).

With more than 400 accredited participants, the meeting discussed topics such as public policies and innovation, financial regulation and fintechs, the impact of artificial intelligence, financing startups, the digitalization of cities and ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) practices.

"This meeting was another chance to promote strategic international partnerships to leverage our companies and also look for ways to increase the financial flow and intellectual exchange between the G20 countries. The Startup20 meetings also send out an important message that Brasil has everything it takes to be the new center of global innovation," said Ingrid.

Among those, the Minister of Entrepreneurship, Microenterprise and Small Bussiness (MEMPE) Márcio França was presented during the four days of debates and presented to the guests some of the initiatives that are on the ministry's radar with a focus on leveraging SMEs and startups in Brasil. Among them, is the creation of a Public Digital Innovation Laboratory; the largest Credit program for Entrepreneurs: Acredita; going public for MSEs; the MEI Card; the Empreende Brasil Award; a digital channel for dialogue with MEIs; and also the creation of partnerships with digital channels to encourage sales in the domestic and foreign markets.

In line with the global nature of the G20 and the growing international debate on startups, delegations from various countries came to the meeting. Representatives from Angola, Argentina, Bangladesh, Brasil, China, the European Union, Finland, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Norway, Oman, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, the United States, the United Kingdom and Uruguay attended the event.

For the president of Abstartups and StartUp20, Ingrid Barth, the Web Summit Rio was an ideal opportunity to show the evolution of the Brazilian entrepreneurial ecosystem, with different themes from the Amazon, with innovation being applied in other industries. "This meeting was another chance to promote strategic international partnerships to leverage our companies and also look for ways to increase the financial flow and intellectual exchange between the G20 countries. The Startup20 meetings also send out an important message that Brasil has everything it takes to be the new center of global innovation," said Ingrid.

During the event, the creation of the "APEXE Nations Report" was announced in conjunction with Startup Genome. This is an unprecedented report that will be launched in the second half of the year, with a ranking of country ecosystems based on factors such as the promotion of talent, access to financial capital and support infrastructure.

The next meeting of the engagement group will take place in São Paulo between September 9 and 12. The meeting closes the Startup20 cycle of meetings before the general G20 Social Summit, which will take place in November in Rio de Janeiro.
