P20 women parliamentarians to debate climate justice and inequality in Maceió
On July 1 and 2, the 1st Meeting of P20 Women Parliamentarians held in Alagoas will advocate for the expansion of female participation in the global agendas of the G20, with a focus on climate justice and the fight against inequalities.

The 1st Meeting of P20 Women Parliamentarians will take place on July 1 and 2 in the state of Alagoas, Brasil. Under the motto "Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet", parliamentarians from G20 member countries, Summit guests, and international organizations will debate the group's priority themes for the year, with a focus on the impacts on girls and women, such as promoting climate justice, sustainable development, and combating inequalities. The meeting will take place at the Ruth Cardoso Cultural and Exhibition Center in Maceió.
The agenda includes working sessions on increasing female representation in decision-making spaces. Additionally, the Brasil Panel will promote discussions on legislative advances and public policies for women. During the joint working sessions, parliamentarians will be able to hold bilateral meetings to exchange experiences and information on topics of mutual interest. The meeting is an opportunity to broaden the participation of women legislators in debates that are at the center of global attention.
The President of Brasil’s Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira, will attend the opening ceremony scheduled for 9 a.m. on June 1. Since October 2023, Lira has been leading the P20 coordination, a role previously held by the President of India’s House of the People, Om Birla. The P20 is a G20 engagement group that aims to strengthen global collaboration to ensure the enforcement of international agreements, playing an important role in guiding the bloc's governments. The ceremony will also be attended by the second secretary of the Chamber of Deputies’ Board of Directors, Congresswoman Maria do Rosário; the Women's Caucus coordinator, Congresswoman Benedita da Silva; federal authorities; and representatives from the state of Alagoas and the Mayor’s Office of Maceió.
