The Chamber of Deputies and the Federal Senate begin press accreditation for coverage of the 10th G20 Parliamentary Speakers' Summit (P20)

The Chamber of Deputies and the Federal Senate will conduct accreditation for brazilian and foreign press professionals who wish to cover the 10th Summit of G20 Parliamentary Presidents (P20), which will take place from November 6 to 8 in Brasília, at the National Congress Palace.
In alignment with the priority areas of the G20 this year, which brings together Heads of State and Government from the world’s largest economies, the 10th P20 Summit will promote debates and exchanges under the theme “Parliaments for a Just World and a Sustainable Planet.” The goal is to identify strategies to positively impact the lives of people in their countries and the international community. Sixty-two delegations have been invited, representing the Parliaments of 35 countries, along with 7 international institutions, including the UN, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), and the Mercosur Parliament.
The exchange between G20 Parliaments is an important tool to bring governmental decision-making processes closer to society’s sectors. The role of parliamentarians is also fundamental in ensuring the implementation of international agreements in their countries.
Program
On November 6, the “G20 Parliamentary Forum: Toward Implementing the Recommendations of the 1st Meeting of Women Parliamentarians of the P20” will take place. This meeting was held in Maceió in July, with more than 30 foreign delegations, resulting in the Alagoas Charter, which will be presented at the P20 Summit. The forum will discuss the promotion of climate justice and sustainable development from a gender and race perspective; the expansion of female representation in decision-making spaces; and the fight against gender and racial inequalities.
On November 7, the official opening ceremony of the P20 Summit will be held, with the arrival of the Presidents of the participating Parliaments, and two working sessions with the following themes: the contribution of Parliaments in combating hunger, poverty, and inequality at the global level; socio-environmental development and a fair and inclusive ecological transition, including addressing natural and human-induced disasters.
On November 8, the last working session will discuss global governance adapted to the challenges of the 21st century. At the end of the P20 meeting, the adoption of a Joint Declaration is expected, which will be delivered to the G20 Leaders’ Summit, scheduled for November 18 and 19 in Rio de Janeiro, with the presence of leaders from the 19 member countries, the African Union, and the European Union.
During the three-day event, parliamentarians will also have the opportunity to participate in bilateral meetings to discuss topics of mutual interest.
History
The P20, in its current format, was structured at the 2018 G20 Leaders’ Summit in Buenos Aires. It is a platform for debate among Parliamentary Presidents to advance the strengthening of parliamentary diplomacy on issues addressed by the G20. Between 2010 and 2018, the P20 operated at the level of consultation meetings: in 2010 in Canada; in 2011 in South Korea; in 2012 in Saudi Arabia; and in 2013 in Mexico. The subsequent editions were held in Japan in 2019, Italy in 2021, Indonesia in 2022, and India in 2023. Due to the pandemic, the 2020 edition was canceled. Therefore, Brazil will host the 10th edition of the P20.
